SecuMail and Office 365 – a strong team
SecuMail adds essential security features to Microsoft 365 and Office 365.
Cloud services are popular. Again and again we are asked whether SecuMail is compatible with Microsoft 365 and Office 365. Therefore, we want to deal with the topic in more detail here. To do this, we answer the three most frequently asked questions below.
1. Why do I need SecuMail if I have Microsoft 365 or Office 365?
The security component behind Microsoft 365 and Office 365 is called Exchange Online Protection (EOP). This is not included in all plans and must be configured separately.
Even when EOP is included and properly configured, many of our customers complain about the lack of accuracy. In our view, EOP’s spam and malware protection is far from providing adequate protection.

In addition to the licenses, this is another cost factor that is often not taken into account. Microsoft does not offer this consulting service, so it must be purchased additionally. Otherwise, you will receive the minimum performance according to “scheme F”.

2. Why does it make sense to combine SecuMail with Microsoft 365 / Office 365? How do others do it?
SecuMail adds essential security features to Microsoft365/Office365. That’s why many of our customers use the combination of SecuMail and Microsoft 365 / Office 365.
Most people have chosen SecuMail because they want to secure their cloud mail with powerful spam and malware protection. Especially with Microsoft/Office 365, protection against spam and malware is advisable, as the included functions are very rudimentary.
3. How can SecuMail be technically combined with Microsoft 365 / Office 365?
Regardless of whether you operate a dedicated mail server or use a cloud service, SecuMail is integrated via the MX record.
Activating SecuMail is very easy in three steps, without installing additional software or special configurations of your mail server.
Easy in just a few steps:
- Assign a different MX record to the DNS server of the domain so that it points to SecuMail.
- Put the SecuMail server on the IP allow list.
- Store the list of e-mail addresses with SecuMail.
When introducing Microsoft 365 / Office 365, the MX may have to point to Microsoft 365 / Office365 for a short time, but can then be switched to SecuMail immediately.
