MIME: (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension)

MIME is a standard set out in RFC 1341 and 1342 . It is an extension of the originally text-based Internet mail system. MIME makes it possible, for example, to transmit images, formatted texts and colors between sender and receiver. For this purpose, MIME defines the type of transmitted data (= MIME type) and the appropriate character encoding (content transfer encoding).
